Garp, both characters are compelling and related to each other as Luffy is the grandson of Garp however both are equally different from each other as Garp is the Hero of the Marines while Luffy is a pirate and one of the Conquerors of the One Piece world.

Gear 5 Luffy Vs Garp
Luffy, as a pirate and user of the Gum-Gum Fruit, possesses a wide range of physical abilities that make him a formidable opponent. He has incredible strength, speed, and agility, and can stretch his body to impossible lengths to strike from a distance. Additionally, Luffy’s Haki abilities give him the power to sense and control the emotions and willpower of those around him, further enhancing his fighting skills. Recently, he unlocked the Gear 5, power just limited by imagination.
On the other hand, Garp is a veteran of the Marines and has spent decades honing his combat skills. He is incredibly strong and possesses immense physical endurance, having fought in countless battles over the years. Garp is also a master of hand-to-hand combat and can use his fists to devastating effect, as well as employ advanced techniques like the « Rankyaku » to strike from a distance.

Can gear 5 Luffy beat Garp on Speed ?
Luffy’s speed was first showcased with his gear 2nd technique which allows him to increase the blood flow in his body and increase his metabolism which makes him extremely fast, we also get to see him move faster than what a human eye would be able to perceive. His gear 4th and 5th use the same concept as gear 2nd which makes him equally faster than he was in 2nd gear.
Now while Garp may be a big name in the show itself and considered by many marines and pirates to be a Legendary figure equal to the Pirate King Gol D. Roger himself, we have not seen any substantial and concrete feat from Garp that we can use to determine how fast he exactly is but if we are to compare him to Luffy then he would most certainly be a tad bit slower

Can gear 5 Luffy beat Garp on Durability ?
Luffy has always been very durable than others, to say the least thanks to his Devil Fruit which allows him to be immune to bludgeoning attacks and only vulnerable to sharp and piercing attacks.
In addition to being very durable thanks to his ability Luffy can also use Armament Haki to clad his torso in gear 4 to become incredibly more sturdy and his gear 5 allows him to be more ‘’ free ‘’ and changes his surroundings and enemies into rubber to dodge, deflect or absorb the attacks from his enemies
Again Garp’s Durability was never shown except for 3 moments in the series when he was hurt by Luffy because he wanted Luffy to save Ace and when he was getting bashed by Dadan after the Paramount war, and lastly when he was attacked by Morgan and we could evidently see him bleed against all 3 attacks from even someone as weak as Dadan which leads us to assume that Garp’s Durability is much weaker than Luffy’s

Can gear 5 Luffy beat Garp on Physical Capabilities/Strength ?
Luffy’s attacks pack an incredible amount of destructive power in them because of the momentum he builds up from stretching his body parts. Luffy is capable of stretching any part of his body part which allows him to use it to his advantage and attack his enemies.
Evidently, quite a lot of people get visibly shaken or hurt from these said attacks, everyone from a Yonko to marine to shichibukais have tasted the strength of Luffy’s attacks In addition to that Luffy managed to defeat Big Mom and Kaido both of whom can destroy countries and islands so it might be safe to assume that Luffy is Island Level at least.
Garp is said to have clashed multiple times with the Pirate King Gol D. Roger himself over the course of his lifetime and in all those battles the victor remained to be decided which means that Roger and Garp drew all their battles and could not determine a victor.
Garp has shown to display an incredible amount of strength with his punches, whether it be to demolish Marco in the paramount war or throwing huge cannonballs at his enemy ships, It is safe to assume that Garp is one of the strongest if not the strongest person in the One Piece universe mainly because of his strength and destructive capabilities.
Garp quite easily wins this criterion point.
Can gear 5 Luffy beat Garp on Haki ?
Luffy trained for 2 years under the first mate of the Pirate King, Silver’s Rayleigh, and after the time skip, Luffy has shown significant mastery over all 3 forms of Haki, Conquerors, Observation, and Armament. Luffy’s strongest form of Haki seems to be the Conqueror Haki
Garp is arguably the strongest user of Armament Haki in the entire One Piece world and can also use Observation Haki however it has not been confirmed yet whether he can use Conqueror’s Haki or not but Since its implied that he is equal to Roger and Roger had the strongest Conquerors Haki we would like to assume that Garp can use all 3 forms of Haki as well
While the victor for this criterion is extremely hard for us to determine, we can safely assume that Garp would be the victor in a Haki matchup against Luffy because he is more experienced.
Can gear 5 Luffy beat Garp in Battle IQ ?
Luffy is known for his ingenuity and quick thinking in battles, often finding creative solutions to difficult problems. However, he can also be impulsive and reckless at times, which can lead to dangerous situations. Garp, on the other hand, is a seasoned veteran of the Marines with decades of experience in combat and strategy. He is known for his tactical prowess and ability to quickly assess and react to situations on the battlefield. While he may not have the same level of creativity as Luffy, his years of experience give him a significant advantage in terms of strategic thinking.

After a very hard and careful Analysis, we have come to the conclusion, it will be really hard for Gear 5 Luffy to beat Papy Garp (so fine margin). And impossible to beat Prime Garp at this moment of the manga (arc Egghead).
