Now, you all know who Luffy is by now, and with his Gear 5 feats unlocked, he remains one of the strongest characters in the One Piece universe so far.
The same can be said of Kakashi Hatake, “The Copy Ninja” who became the Sixth Hokage and was a mentor to Naruto.
I’ve been following One Piece since 2008, and I’ve seen Luffy’s growth from his base form to Gear 5th, and I’ve got one question, Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Kakashi? And if so, what criteria do we need to use to compare the two fighters?

You all know who Luffy is by now, I’m not gonna repeat the whole introduction again, and considering he has unlocked Gear 5, not many people can stand up to him. Despite this, I am still curious as to who will turn out to be victorious in this bout.
As you all know, Kakashi is one of the strongest characters in Naruto and is also known as « The Copy Ninja ». He has many skills such as Kamui, Genjutsu, Susanoo, Raikiri, and Jutsu with other elements. His high IQ and versatility make him worthy to be a mentor to Naruto and the Sixth Hokage in the Naruto universe. So, what would a fight between him and Kakashi look like?

I can’t compare this battle under normal standards considering that Kakashi is a Ninja and uses Chakra whereas Luffy is a Pirate and uses Haki/Devil Fruit, which are exact opposites.

Can Luffy beat Kakashi in terms of Strength?
It’s no strange fact that Gear 5 is the peak of all his abilities and the summation of all of his previous gears. Not only that, he has mastered the Advanced versions of Armament, Observation and Conqueror’s Haki, making worthy of the Four Emperors of the Sea title.
Contrary to that, Kakashi doesn’t have much strength because his main focus is on Chakra, which is used every time to make oneself stronger. Besides that, Kakashi still had a hard time defeating Tsunade and Itachi.

Can Luffy beat Kakashi in terms of Speed ?
Gear 5 enhances Luffy’s already fast speed to the point where he blitzed Kaido and kept up with his Thunder Bagua attacks.
Now, ninjas are fast, that’s for sure and Kakashi is known for his speed. So much so that he kept up with the likes of 6th Gate Might Guy and intercepted Kakuzu’s lightning at point-blank range.
Gear 5 Luffy and Kakashi are equal in terms of Speed.
Can Luffy beat Kakashi in terms of Destructive Capabilities ?
Gear 5 Luffy has shown immense destructive power during his fight with Kaido in his Hybrid Dragon Form, which was his strongest form yet. Once he defeated Kaido, he punched him into an underwater volcano which then erupted, showing the extent of his strength.
Kakashi, on the other hand, may not have much power in this case unless he uses Susasnoo. He may duke it out with many ninjas but against formidable Ninja’s like Madara Uchiha, he doesn’t stand a chance. His speed and Jutsu abilities make up for his lack of strength and power, though.

Can Luffy beat Kakashi in terms of Endurance ?
Luffy’s famous for the beatdowns that he received from most villains. From Kuma, Enel, Lucci, Arlong all the way to Doflamingo, Big Mom, and Kaido. But one thing’s clear, he never backs down and he always finds a way to get back up, no matter what.
Kakashi can withstand a beating, sure. But he can only take it to such an extent that he HAS to retreat to recover and think of a tactic to make a comeback with.
Luffy beats Kakashi in terms of Endurance with a wide margin.
Can Luffy beat Kakashi in terms of IQ ?
Kakashi was known as a genius during his lifetime and became a chuunin six years younger than Naruto’s age at that time and was hailed as a genius by many.
Luffy’s a simpleton, and that gets him into a lot of trouble for no reason at all. Gear 5 doesn’t enhance Intelligence in any way.
Kakashi beats Gear 5 Luffy in terms of IQ.
Can Luffy beat Kakashi in terms of Battle IQ ?
Kakashi has more battle experience with tougher enemies and improvises on battle plans and tactics if things don’t go his way.
The same can be said for Luffy considering his rough upbringing and his fighting style is completely based on this.
Luffy and Kakashi are equal in terms of Battle IQ.
Can Luffy beat Kakashi in terms of devil fruit power ?
The thing about Devil Fruits is that they have a wide range of abilities that can make ANYONE and I mean, ANYONE powerful provided he makes the right use of it. The second the DF User steps in a body of water, they’re done for as Water is the only weakness for a Devil Fruit user.
Jutsus, however, are based of Chakras which is basically the lifeforce of oneself. Elements do not play a part in making the user weak. Instead, it can release Elemental Chakras as well.
Kakashi’s Jutsu would win over Gear 5 Luffy’s Devil Fruit Power anytime.
X factor
Finally, we can look at the conclusion. Now, considering Luffy’s strength and Endurance along with Destructive Capabilities, Gear 5 Luffy would definitely have an edge in this fight.
But that’s not to say that Kakashi would totally lose in this considering he has more Battle IQ as well as Jutsu superiority.
Luffy would have a tough time defeating Kakashi in the end.
