Hello, One Piece lover!

With so many changes happening in Shonen Jump, there have been opportunities for new worlds for people to jump right into. Among them is one such series known as My Hero Academia where people with superpowers known as “Quirks” exist and make history with it! This is a perfect chance to set up a fantasy battle!

In today’s article, we’ll answer the question : Can gear 5 Luffy beat Deku ? In pitting two heroes against each other with Monkey D. Luffy, the future King of the Pirates and the poster boy of One Piece in the red corner and Izuku “Deku” Midoriya, the latest wielder of One for All quirk and the coming-of-age rising star of My Hero Academia!

It’s a pleasure for me to write this article and guide you through it as my passion for the One Piece series has been at an all-time high for 15 years and I hope you have a blast reading it!

Gear 5 Luffy vs Izuku “Deku” Midoriya!

Let me tell you a few things regarding Midoriya. Before he got the One for All quirk from his idol and soon-to-be mentor Toshinori Yagi A.K.A. “All Might”, Deku was among the 20% of humans born without a quirk, earning him the nickname “Quirkless” and making him become a victim of constant bullying from his peers.  Once he was deemed worthy by All Might, it was his time to shine and take on the world!

His story of how became the greatest hero is a monumental lesson of perseverance for all of us, through sheer hard work and dedication, he eventually made it to the top and unlocked the abilities of the previous inheritors of “One for All” as well, making him a beast of an opponent to tackle and face against as well!

Let’s not forget Luffy and his adventures as well since he faced so many obstacles to reach the point where he is now all because of his perseverance! But should there be a situation where the Heroes are tasked with capturing Pirates, who would emerge victorious? Let’s find out!

Categories for battle assessment

Here are the categories for the fight:

  • Strength
  • Speed
  • Power (destructive capabilities)
  • Endurance
  • IQ and Battle IQ
  • Devils fruit/Haki vs Quirk

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Deku in terms of Strength?

Should Izuku Midoriya be given a chance to test his strength, he will gladly show a demonstration of his might and finesse. Remember the time when Midoriya punched a training robot when his One for All quirk wasn’t refined enough? Now that he has mastered his own Quirk, he is capable of blowing away a storm, and breaking Tomura Shigaraki’s (his arch-nemesis) stomach and jaw, which is quite resilient!

Gear 5 Luffy would still overpower him though. His Post-Wano Base Form would be enough to land Multi-Continental Strikes to Deku since his base form made Doflamingo, Big Mom and Kaido (Hybrid Form) bleed profusely.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Deku in terms of Speed?

What makes Deku fast is his training (obviously) and his inherited Quirks from the third and fifth One for All users; Fa Jin and Blackwhip respectively which allows him to travel thousands of kilometers within a few seconds and blitz Lady Nagant and her Rifle Arm via his One for All: Full Cowl Faux 100% Manchester Smash! It’s Hypersonic at best and allows Deku to reach the Speed of All Might in his Prime!

Luffy’s Gear 4th Snakeman and Gear 5 forms are enough to blitz any opponent in his way thanks to his Haki coating and Faster than Speed of Light reflexes. Not to mention he dodged Pacifista beams in his base form at Sabaody which is capable of immense destruction despite its tremendous speed.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Deku in terms of Power (Destructive Capabilities)?

Deku’s simple signature punches such as the Wyoming Smash, Texas Smash and the All Might inspired Detroit Smash, all provide ample range of destruction via his One for All Quirk. Not only that. His One for All: Full Cowl Shoot Style is capable of delivering some Heavy Kicks as well just as he stopped Shigaraki’s Decay Wave from spreading across the city using the Shoot Style. This is City to Mountain level at most.

For Gear 5 Luffy, all I’m gonna say is that all of his Gomu Gomu maneuvers bring me as well as his enemies shock. Gomu Gomu no Bajrang Gun and Gomu Gomu no Kaminari, where he literally grabbed a bolt of lightning and hit it to Kaido, delivering Continental damage at best.

Gear 5 Luffy pummels Deku in terms of Power (Destructive Capabilities).

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Deku in terms of Endurance?

The one thing that both Luffy and Deku are famous for is Endurance. In Midoriya’s case, it’s in his EVERY move before going through intense training. Every time he used One for All, his fingers involved would swell and break. Bones too. Now that he has trained well under All Might and Endeavor,  he is capable of taking point-blank Air Cannon from Shigaraki as well as stopping a shot from Lady Nagant’s Rifle Arm which is Mountain Level at best.

You all know about our boy Luffy, he took hits from Jinbei at one point too, Doflamingo, Heavenly Bonbon from Prometheus (Big Mom’s Sun Homie), Haki-infused hits from Awakened Katakuri and Kaido in all of his forms. That would be Multi-Continental level at best.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Deku in terms of IQ and Battle IQ?

Deku is a gifted hero and a genius in his own right. He always made notes regarding the movements of a hero so that he could implement it on his own and refined them according to his situation. He also effectively performs multiple mental processes at once, a feat which is not humanly possible for any of us to achieve.

Luffy, well, he may be a simpleton but in terms of fighting, he is a maestro as well since he has shown to be a quick learner and adapt different fighting techniques to different situations as well. His greatest feat, looking for openings to land the sweet strike just like when he did with Rob Lucci at Enies Lobby.

If you want to see another fight of Luffy against someone with a similar IQ and battle IQ to the former’s, check out Luffy vs Goku!

Deku beats Gear 5 Luffy in terms of IQ but both are tied in terms of Battle IQ.

Gear 5 Luffy vs Deku (Devil Fruit/Haki vs Quirk)?

The thing about Quirks is that it’s genetically inherited and can only be refined through strenuous training or a life-and-death situation. Sometimes, even the most useless Quirk can come into existence as well such as Mineta’s Balls and Aoyama’s Naval Laser.

In Devil Fruit’s case, the user can have a choice in getting the required power, at the cost of swimming, of course, but that would still bring an edge over Quirks.

The same can be said for Haki since it is the manifestation of willpower or spirit of a person and can use it accordingly to overcome their enemies.

Devil Fruits and Haki would win over Quirks anytime.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Deku ? Final words :

Well, by the time we’ve reached the end, it must’ve already been decided who would be the victor. But I think that Deku would give Gear 5 Luffy a tough match or a good fight, at least.

Still, there’s nothing that can stop Gear 5 Luffy from doing what he wants. Not even these heroes.

Gear 5 Luffy defeats Deku by a high margin.
