Hello, Nakama!
The Wano Country Arc is considered to be one of the greatest and most pivotal arcs in the series with amazing fight sequences and vital plot information revealed throughout the series such as the nature of the Devil Fruits, Haki as well as the introduction of new characters pivotal to the plot! Among them is the introduction of Yamato, the daughter of Kaido, who is immediately a fan-favorite!
Introduced as the masked “son” of Kaido, she was revealed to be a tall beauty and a staunch admirer of Oden! But what if, Yamato had no choice but to fight the Straw Hats and take on Luffy head-on? Who would win?
It’s with immense pleasure that I’ll be your host for today’s article yet again and with my passion for the series burning bright for 15 years, I can’t wait to tell you how this article unfolds! Let’s sail ahead!
Luffy vs Yamato
Yamato is quite an eccentric character. She was first revealed as “Kozuki Oden” which shocked me to the core as well seeing as how Oden sacrificed himself just to let the Red Scabbards live! Then, she revealed herself as Kaido’s “Son”, which would’ve made sense considering that in the earlier panels drawn by Oda, he had the resemblance of a man. It wasn’t until the later chapters that Yamato was revealed to be a female. Way to go, Oda.
Nonetheless, she immediately won our hearts! Her time with Ace was also nothing short of memorable and formed the basis of her friendship with Luffy in the first place since she was waiting for “Ace’s brother” to come to Wano. Her admiration and obsession with “Kozuki Oden” are weird but fairly memorable for all of us fans to remember!
I do think of a scenario where Yamabro, oh sorry, I mean, Yamato would’ve never allied with Straw Hats and in an alternate timeline where Kaido would never have imprisoned her in the first place, making her an adversary for the Straw hats.
How would the result turn out if Luffy goes toe-to-toe against her? Let’s find out!

Can Luffy beat Yamato in terms of Strength?
You know the first thing that comes to my mind when talking about Strength? And if it’s Wano-related? Thunder Bagua. Simple. Yamato one-shotted Ulti WHILE being in Seastone Handcuffs with this move. Luffy did the same in his Gear 4 form. This would show that they’re on equal levels of strength.
But Luffy has an “Ace” up his sleeve. (Pun intended). His Gear 5 moveset is significantly more powerful than Yamato’s and can sure pack a punch. Arguably, Luffy’s base form can make Hybrid Kaido bleed, so there’s that.
Luffy beats Yamato in terms of Strength.
Can Luffy beat Yamato in terms of Speed?
Now, both Yamato and Luffy are speedsters, there’s no doubt about that. When Yamato kept up with Gear 2nd Luffy and managed to tag Base form Kaido as well as keeping up with Hybrid Form Kaido in her own Hybrid Form, that when I got to know that she is significantly faster than the speed of light, almost at par with Luffy’s speed.
Luffy and Yamato are tied in terms of Speed.
Can Luffy beat Yamato in terms of Haki?
Here’s a fun and unique thing about the two of them having Haki. Yamato has mastered all three forms of Haki and the same can be said for Luffy. She uses Conqueror’s Haki infusion with her weapons quite frequently, thanks to observing her father’s techniques and Luffy got the same idea when battling Kaido since he does have a sharp aptitude.

Luffy and Yamato are tied in terms of Haki.
Can Luffy beat Yamato in terms of Power (Destructive Capabilities)?
If we count Yamato’s damage delivery, it should be Multi-Continental at best, given the fact that she fought and parried blows from Hybrid Form Kaido and her Namuji Glacier Fang countered Kaido’s Bolo Breath, which is saying something in regards to her power.
For Luffy, all I’ll say is that his Gear 5 form outweighs all. His Bajrang Gun, Kaminari, Nawatobi (the move where he uses Kaido as a skipping rope), and Gigant forms are enough to shock and crush everyone.
Luffy beats Yamato in terms of Power (Destructive Capabilities).
Can Luffy beat Yamato in terms of Endurance?
You know, it’s quite surprising that both of them have the same level of endurance. How, you may ask?
Well, Yamato took a punch from an enraged Luffy in his Gear 2nd and 3rd combined form once and in her Zoan form, she took a Vajra Arrow attack from Kaido, which I can bet is pretty painful to even look at!
The same can be said for Luffy who took attacks like Ragnarok and Gyundari Ryuseigun from Hybrid Form Kaido. He even managed to block a Bolo Breath from his own hand!
Lastly, he even withstood the Destroyer of Death Thunder Bagua attack from Kaido, which is his deadliest attack I’ve seen so far.
Luffy and Yamato are tied in terms of Endurance.
Can Luffy beat Yamato in terms of IQ?
Well, Yamato and Luffy both have one thing in common, they’re simpletons. Take Yamato’s obsession with Oden, for example. Just by reading his journal, she started calling herself that name.
The same goes for Luffy who acts on nothing but emotions, eventually landing him in trouble.
Luffy and Yamato are equal in terms of IQ.
Can Luffy beat Yamato in terms of Battle IQ?
In battle, things are different as both possess gifted intelligence in terms of combat with Yamato adapting her father’s technique and Luffy coming up with counter-stategies mid-battle.
Luffy is tied with Yamato in terms of Battle IQ.
Can Luffy beat Yamato in terms of Devil Fruit power?
Here’s another fascinating fact. Both have Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits with Luffy having the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Nika and Yamato having the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami.
Since both of them are Mythical Zoan fruits, they’re equally powerful and stand a chance against one another.
Luffy ties with Yamato’s Devil Fruit Power.
X factor
The results are set! This would prove to be a tough battle since Yamato’s abilities and Luffy’s are tied with one another, Luffy would still have the upper-hand against her thanks to his Gear 5 Awakening.
Who knows, we might’ve got to see more action between the two!
Luffy beats Yamato by a small margin.
