Monkey D Luffy has officially become a Yonko. With a three billion-belly bounty, he is a force to be reckoned with. But exactly how strong is he? Is he strong enough to beat the strongest swordsman in the One Piece world? Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk ?

After the events of Wano, the answer is probably yes, but what would a battle between the new Yonko and the strongest of the former warlords look like? Read this article to find out.

The way things stand

Greetings, One piece fans! I hope all is well. With the recent developments in the manga, Luffy has just become an emperor of the sea, but he is not alone. Buggy has Al’s become a new emperor, supported by former warlords Sir Crocodile and Mihawk. Now, we know Mihawk is the strongest member of this group, known as the cross guild, so how does Luffy square off against him?

Luffy vs. Mihawk

Now, we have no real way of actually knowing want the outcome of a class between Luffy and Mihawk would look like; only Oda can know, but all we can do, is place Luffy and Mihawk against each other on a set of predefined categories to see who comes out on top.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk ? The Criterias :

The categories will be:

  • Strength
  • Speed
  • Endurance
  • Haki
  • Power
  • Abilities
  • IQ
  • Feats

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk on Strength ?

Mihawk is one of the strongest characters in the show, and that strength also shows itself in his fighting style; his sword, Yoru, one of the twelve supreme grade swords, is huge and must weigh a great deal, being alba to swing it and that too with such precision must reacquire a significant amount of strength and control.

But we have seen feats of strength from Luffy that Mihawk has yet to compare to so far, such as knocking out Kaido, moving buildings, and more. On an apparent level, Luffy has shown more strength.

Luffy wins strength.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk on Speed ?

Mihawk is fast, precise, and has to be to keep his title; being the strongest swordsman would mean that he is essentially faster than the likes of Zoro and Vista; we know how fast Zoro has become, but Mihawk must, by definition, be faster.

Luffy has also shown an insane level of agility and speed in his battles against Katakuri and Doflamingo, as well as on Wano. We do now know how fast Mihawk is, but with Luffy’s current level of speed, we can safely say that Luffy can match the speed Mihawk’s reputation would give him.

Speed is a tie.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk on Endurance ?

We know that Mihawk was a rival of Shanks, who, based on what happened to Kidd, is a brutal fighter. Thus we can assume that Mihawk has the endurance to match Shanks, who didn’t even flinch when losing an arm.

On the other hand, we know all of the things Luffy has been through and continues to fight and get stronger.

Luffy wins endurance.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk on Haki ?

We do not know the extent of Mihawk’s prowess at Haki, but we do know that he can keep up with Shanks and that he was the one who taught Zoro how to coat his swords with armament.

So we put both Luffy and Mihawk together on all three forms of Haki.

  • Luffy has learned advanced armament, or Ryo, as they call it in Wano, making him far stronger. Still, Mihawk’s armament-coated attacks cut an entire glacier in half, so we give armament a tie.
  • Observation, Luffy unlocked future sight at WCI, on the same level as Katakuri, but we know that Shanks can nullify the effects of observation. To keep up with him, Mihawk must have had an insane level of observation; thus, observation is a tie.
  • Conqueror’s, now this is tricky, we have never seen Mihawk use conqueror’s, but both his student and his rival can. Thus, he must have an insane level of conqueror coating ability. Still, Luffy has shown an unbreakable will and probably the second-strongest conqueror’s in the series. Thus Conqueror’s is also a tie.

Haki is a tie.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk on Power ?

Luffy now has an insane amount of destructive power, as he can change his own body and that of others, but he is still weak to slashing, and cutting-based attacks, which is all Mihawk will use.

Mihawk also has the power to cut entire islands in half if the feats of the clone in the manga are any indication.

Mihawk wins power.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk on Abilities ?

As the strongest swordsman in the world, Mihawk has a wide range of techniques and abilities at his disposal, but Luffy can literally morph regality according to his imagination, making it clear that,

Luffy wins abilities.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk on IQ ?

Luffy is really dumb but we like him !
Mihawk has a calm, collected nature and he seems to be an intelligent person.

Mihawk wins this point.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk on Feats ?

Mihawk is the undefeated and undisputed strongest swordsman in the one piece world, a former rival to a Yonko, known as the marine hunter, and the real strength behind the Cross Guild. His feats are extraordinary.

If you want to read about a fight between luffy and a Mihawk’s rival, check : Can gear 5 Luffy beat Shanks ?

But, as an emperor, having beaten three warlords, challenged the world government, survived two buster calls, and beaten the strongest creature in the world, I believe Luffy has his fair share of feats under his belt.

Feats are a tie.

Can Gear 5 Luffy beat Mihawk ? Final words :

A fight between Luffy and Mihawk would be almost unpredictable in every way, with Luffy being weak to Mihawk’s fighting style.

Still, using an ability like gear 5 would give Luffy the upper hand, and the power needed to beat the greatest swordsman.

Luffy can win with High to Extreme difficulty, yet this battle really could go either way.
