After the recent awakening of Monkey D. Luffy’s fruit, he is now one of the strongest fighters in the One Piece universe especially after he recently defeated one of the Yonko, King of beasts Kaido, Arguably making only the admirals and the fleet admiral his match.
However there is 1 individual who is neither a member of the yonko nor the navy, he is none other than the former right hand of the Gol D. Roger, the Dark King Silvers Rayleigh. And today we will take a look on the level of the amazing fighters.
I have been reading and watching it almost every week. The reason why I write on One Piece is to let more and more people know about this fantastic series and to help people out there in search of answers and theories.
The Quest to Surpass a Legend: Can Luffy Out do Rayleigh?
We will be comparing the strength and abilities of both characters to determine whether Luffy can surpass Rayleigh or not, but before we do that its important to know in which areas has Luffy already surpassed Rayleigh and where he falls short. Let us identify it then.
Categories where Luffy has already surpassed Rayleigh
- Luffy’s ability to stretch and manipulate his body using the Devil Fruit powers, which gives him an edge in battle and allows him to perform incredible feats of strength.(Abilities)
- Luffy’s Haki which is comparable to the likes of Shanks, Kaido and Katakuri (Haki)
Categories where Luffy has not yet surpassed Rayleigh
- Rayleigh’s experience and knowledge of the world, as he has been sailing the seas for many years and has encountered a wide variety of people and situations.(Experience)
- Rayleigh’s Mastery over Haki and Combat over a dozen of years. ( Mastery)
Aspects Where Luffy has Outshined Rayleigh
Haki is one thing we can confidently say that Luffy has surpassed Rayleigh in, both Luffy and Rayleigh can use all 3 types of Haki which are Armament, Observation, and Conquerors Haki and it was Rayleigh who taught Luffy all about these so one would say that Rayleigh has the superior Haki
However, that is not the case because we got to see Luffy’s Armament Haki in his fight against Doflamingo where he showed exceptional control over it when he infused it with his gear 4 to absorb the attacks of Donquixote Doflamingo
Luffy also showed exceptional Observation Haki in his fight against Charlotte Katakuri who could see a few seconds into the future making him and Katakuri one of the strongest Observation Haki users. And he displayed remarkable Conquerors Haki against Kaido and the only one who would arguably be stronger in Conquerors Haki than Luffy would be Shanks.
And finally, the other thing that Luffy surpasses Rayleigh in is his abilities/Devil Fruit with the recent awakening of the Gomu Gomu no mi and the reveal of it being a mythical Zoan fruit based on the Legendary Sun God Nika we believe that this would give him an edge over rayleigh.
Aspects where Luffy falls short of Rayleigh
One thing that Rayleigh has an overwhelming advantage over Luffy is his unmatched experience not only as a pirate but also as a fighter.
Rayleigh was the right-hand man of the Pirate King Gol D. Roger, and he is also 72 years old with more experience than almost anyone in the One Piece universe right now which would give him an overwhelming advantage against Luffy.
Another reason although it may seem insignificant is that no matter how strong Luffy’s Haki is we can not ignore the fact that it was Rayleigh who taught Luffy everything when it came to Haki and how to utilize it so while Luffy might have a better Haki overall, we believe that Raeyleigh’s utilization of the Haki would be far better than Luffy’s.
The basis for our belief that Luffy will eventually outshine Rayleigh
The main factor why we think Luffy will surpass Rayleigh is the age factor as Rayleigh is 72 years old and is way past his prime meanwhile Luffy is at the ripe age of 19 still so young but already a master of Haki and defeating multiple Yonko’s. This leads us to believe that it won’t be long until he fully surpasses Rayleigh
And the final and most cliche reason, while it may seem, Luffy is the main character of the series whose goal is to become the Pirate King and it would be illogical for him to not be stronger than the right-hand man of the former Pirate King.
